Β§ The lay of the land

A real disc golf town, if you beat the heat

Portland is a disc golf city the way it's a coffee city: seriously, and from the ground up. Pier Park is the beloved free classic β€” 18 par 3s winding through towering firs in St. Johns β€” while Milo McIver in Estacada is the tournament cathedral that hosts the Beaver State Fling. Both are among the most-played and best-loved courses in the Pacific Northwest.

The pay-to-play gems are worth the drive: Blue Lake's marathon 10,000-foot layout and Horning's Hideout, the private three-course property with camping. Rain is part of the deal β€” grippy shoes are standard equipment. The Eastside Disc Golf Divas and Disc Golf or Die clubs run weekly leagues, and the community is famously welcoming to newcomers.

New here? Pier Park is the essential first round; Milo McIver is the pilgrimage. For gear, All Day Disc Golf in Portland is the dedicated pro shop, and Next Adventure on SE Grand carries a solid disc selection alongside outdoor gear.
