Denver disc golf runs on altitude and attitude. The metro's crown jewel is Beaver Ranch in the foothills above Conifer — a mountain course with three tee sets that turns the same 21 holes into a friendly loop or a 7,500-foot monster. Closer to town, Bird's Nest is one of the most-played courses in the United States, and Fehringer Ranch offers the city's best practice area with the foothills as a backdrop.
The thin air is real — discs fly farther here, which makes the big holes slightly kinder and the short holes sneakier. The Dragon Disc Golf Club runs Wednesday tags and weekend doubles, and the community is one of the friendliest in the West. Winter play is year-round on the lower-elevation courses, though snow shovels are standard equipment from November through March.
